Dr Emmanuel GAKUBA is a Senior Lecturer of Chemistry at the UR-CE. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Organic Environmental Chemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban, South Africa), an MSc (organic chemistry) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa), a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the former Kigali Institute of Education, BSc with Education (Biology-Chemistry-Education) from the former Kigali Institute of Education. He has been an academic staff member of the UR-CE since 2005.

His research interest lies in the analysis and monitoring of organic pollutants from various environmental matrices, the extraction of secondary metabolites from natural sources (drug discovery), and in science education. He published several papers in acclaimed journals and supervised many students in their research toward the completion of their Ph.D. or master’s degrees. He is an associate member of the African Centre of Excellence for Innovative Teaching and Learning of Mathematics and Science (ACEITLMS).
