Academic Profile of Mrs. Josiane Mukagihana

Mrs. Josiane Mukagihana is Assistant Lecturer of Biology at the University of Rwanda College of Education. She has successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis in Biology Education at the African Center of Excellence for Innovative Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science (ACEITLMS) of the University of Rwanda College of Education. She is waiting for the upcoming graduation ceremony to be awarded a Ph.D. in Biology.

Mrs. Josiane Mukagihana holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biology with Education and QTS secondary upper second-class honors pursued at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), currently URCE. She holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology awarded in 2015 by Mysore University, India.

Mrs. Josiane served as a Biology teacher at a secondary school for one year (2012). Since 2015, she has worked as a part-time lecturer of biology and taught different biology modules at Mahatma Gandhi University-Rwanda Campus, Mount Kenya University-Rwanda, URCE, and at the University of Rwanda College of Agriculture, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine (CAVM).

Mrs. Josiane Mukagihana worked as an assistant lecturer of Biology at the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) for more than four years (2015-2020). Besides, at UTAB, she worked as the head of the Department of Education in Science, Faculty of Education, from 2016 to 2018. At UTAB, she supervised more than 28 pre-service biology teachers’ research projects in biology education. Mrs. Josiane has contributed to academic research. She so far has seven publications in reputed peer-reviewed international Journals. Among them, Josiane is the corresponding author of 5 articles. Besides, Mrs. Josiane contributes to the quality of published and disseminated research works by serving as a peer reviewer of different reputed international journals.

Mrs. Josiane contributes to the quality of Education in Rwanda, he is doing so through participating in the Rwanda Quality Basic Education for Human Capital Development (QBEHCD) project as a trainer of Secondary schools’ Math and science teachers.
Mrs. Josiane Mukagiahana attended different workshops and training and presented some of her research findings at International conferences.

As a female scientist researcher, she is passionate about encouraging young females to undertake science and mathematics studies as a member of the Rwandan Association of Women in Science and Engineering (RAWISE).
