Programmes

UR-CE offers master’s degree and PhD opportunities for professionals who are working or intend to work in the education sector and who need to advance their knowledge, skills, and professional competences. It offers 26 PhD by Research, 10 master’s degrees, 4 Postgraduate Diploma and 1 Postgraduate Certificate program accredited by the Higher Education Council.

By choosing the College of Education, you will be trained by high caliber faculty who demonstrate a long experience in teaching, research, and supervision of postgraduate students. College academicians, researchers and scholars publish their papers in reputed international journals.

The population of postgraduate students is diverse. In the African Center of Excellence in Innovative Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science (ACEITLMS) 22% of master’s students and 43% of PhD students are international.
The ACEITLMS aims at strengthening human capacity to deliver research-based quality teaching and learning of mathematics and science across the region, in collaboration with regional and international institutions.

Programs in the School of Education

1.Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Full time in secondary school holidays) (Remera and Rukara campus) Duration : 1 year.
Entry requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
• Evidence of involvement in teaching in secondary schools or willing to be a teacher.
• Ability to use English as a medium of instruction.

2. Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE) (Part time and Work-based learning ) (Location : Remera Campus) Duration : six months year.
Entry requirements
• At least a bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
• Evidence of involvement in teaching in Higher Learning Education.
• Ability to use English as a medium of instruction.

3. Master’s in Education (Full time in weekends) (Location : Remera and Rukara campus) Duration : Two years.
Options :
1. Curriculum and instruction
2. Educational Leadership and Management.
Entry requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or in any other field of study with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
• Ability to use English as a medium of instruction.

4. Master’s in Education (Full time in weekends) (Location : Remera and Rukara campus) Duration : Two years
Options :
1. English Education
2. Kinyarwanda Education
3. Kiswahili Education
4. Enseignement du Français
Entry requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or in Arts/Language (English, French, Kinyarwanda, or Kiswahili).
• Ability to use English as a medium of instruction.
• Ability to use a medium of instruction, the language of the option you are applying for.

5. PhD by Research in Education (Full time) Duration : Four years

 BEd (Hons.) in a related field with upper second class or equivalent.
 BSc (hons.) in a related field with Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

7. PhD by Research in Education (Full time) Duration : 4 years.

Entry requirements
 MSc in a related field (Biology/Chemistry/Mathematics/Physics) with an undergraduate science degree in a related field with Master’s degree in Education.
