Expected Learning Outcome

Graduates in BSc Programme in Urban Planning will be equipped with a scientific and professional knowledge and skills in urban and regional planning. They will be able to prepare urban plans and district spatial development plans ; coordinate urban development in terms of stakeholder analysis ; prepare and implement urban development plans, and apply the geospatial tools and techniques for solving the spatial planning problems.
They should be able to guide, administer and manage the transfers of ownership and use of land, buildings and real estate, land dispute resolutions.
They will advise and support the public and private land developers and local governments on all issues related to spatial planning , participate in elaboration of infrastructure and services plans and management plans ; coordinate the action plans related urban strategic planning ; Graduates will be marketable as geographers, urban and spatial planners in governmental institutions or private companies which can also facilitate the creation of new jobs in of urban and regional planning field.

ICT and study skills , English for special purpose, English for special purpose, Geomorphology, Geomorphology, Introduction to human geography, Physics and chemistry for geography, Climatology and hydrology, Rural spaces, Urban spaces, Citizenship and Transformative Education, Statistics for geography, Geographical thought and approaches to science and Introduction to Geo-science and cartography.

Year 2 :
English for academic purpose, Regional geography, Research methods and statistics, Advanced GIS, Geography of Rwanda, Principles of land administration, Introduction to spatial planning, Principles of remote sensing, Urban and Regional planning Theory, Local economic development Methods and techniques in urban and regional planning, Land and housing, Research Project for urban planners.

Year 3 :
Urbanization, climate change and sustainable development ; Project planning and management ; Services and infrastructure planning and management ; GIS for urban and Regional planning ; Entrepreneurship, Urban Design ; Environmental planning and management, Professional practice and internship, Final Research Project.

Expected Learning Outcome

Graduates in BSc of Geography with specialization in Environmental Planning are equipped with the scientific and professional conceptions and tools of environmental planning and management as components of sustainable development.
They will be capable to : develop, operate and apply environmental planning tools and information systems for planning of natural resources (urban and rural) by adoption of information and communication technology tools ; coordinate action plans related to local economic development, environmental-oriented project planning and implementation, develop and execute an environmental planning related research proposal, to derive and write a research report, and disseminate research findings. Graduates from this program will be marketable as geographers, researchers, consultants, trainers or managers in environment-related governmental and non-governmental institutions.

GIS for environmental management ; Environment, climate change & sustainable development ; Hydrology and watershed management ; Project planning and management ; Entrepreneurship ; Ecosystems Assessment, Valuation and Management ; Environmental planning and management ; Professional practice and internship ; and Final research project.

Expected Learning Outcome

At the end of the programme students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of : In-depth knowledge of current environmental issues that hamper sustainable development in Rwanda and the surrounding region ; Understand the complexity of dynamic process of the environment (space & time) using Geo-information technology ; Geoinformation tools and techniques relevant to environmental analysis and management ; Appropriate tools and techniques to be applied to the environmental research topic.
They will also be able to : Apply a range of tools and steps to case studies and research ; Plan and carry out a significant project of research in field of environment and Geoscience for sustainable development ; demonstrate the value-added of spatial information in addressing complex environmental issues and supporting informed decisions and innovative ideas.
This programme will equip studtens with skils to produce results from environmental modelling and analysis that are easily understandable by different users and decision makers ; write and present project proposals in the subject matter of Environment and Sustainable Development and present them for local and international funding ; and Undertake, monitor, report a research project and present results to various audience
