Scripted Lesson Version 1.0

Creation of editable scripted lesson version 1.0

The project collaborated with the New Jersey Center of Teaching and Learning (NJCTL) of the USA, whose scripted lessons served as a model and inspiration for developing similar lessons for Rwandan schools. These lessons, designed to enhance teachers' practices and content knowledge, include instructional presentations, classwork, homework (with answer keys), and physical and virtual labs, effectively replacing traditional textbooks. The lessons are accessible online and can be downloaded or printed for offline use.

Building on NJCTL’s model, the University of Rwanda College of Education (UR-CE), in partnership with the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB), developed editable scripted lessons tailored to the Rwandan curriculum for Mathematics and Science from primary level (P4) to senior secondary level (S3). This partnership aimed to transform the teaching, learning, and assessment of these subjects in Rwanda. The focus was on creating editable lessons to allow flexibility and customization in the classroom, enabling teachers to tailor lessons to their students' needs. This approach ensures consistency in instruction across different teachers, levels, and schools. The scripted lessons were validated by REB staff to ensure they met curriculum standards and requirements.

The initial version (1.0) of these editable scripted lessons was developed collaboratively by primary and secondary school Mathematics and Science teachers and UR-CE lecturers. This version served as a foundation for continuous improvement through feedback from teachers. The project expanded the use of these lessons for S1, piloting them in 30 schools, and later developed new scripted lessons for all subjects in both primary and secondary levels. These lessons were created using OneNote software and follow the CBC lesson plan format, comprising three main parts: content, teacher library, and collaboration space. They include instructional presentations, classwork, homework (with answer keys), some animations, and YouTube videos.  The structure of the scripted lesson version 1.0 is illustrated in an image below showing a developed scripted version 1.0
