Laboratory practices provide students with hands-on learning experiences, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. This practical engagement enhances their understanding and retention of concepts. However, some limitations such as high cost of laboratory materials and consumables, risky experiments dictated many schools not to provide students a chance to explore science concepts through experiments. To addresses those issues, the project initiated on developing Virtual Science Labs to provide students with opportunities for exercising scientific skills that are key aspects of the Competence- Based Curriculum.
Virtual science labs are simulated experiments that are inquiry-based and learner-centric. VSLs replicate the experience of traditional hands-on laboratory experiments in a virtual environment. These labs leverage technology to provide students with a practical and engaging way to explore scientific concepts, conduct experiments, and analyze results. Virtual science labs are often used in educational settings, particularly in schools, colleges, and universities, to enhance the learning experience in science courses.
