Dr. Rutazuyaza Vaillant Byizigiro is Lecturer of Geography at the University of Rwanda - College of Education. He went through his Primary and Secondary Education in South Kivu Province, D.R. Congo, from 1980 to 1992. In 1995 He registered for a Bachelor Degree in Geography at the National University of Rwanda (N.U.R.), which He obtained in 2000.
In 2002, He joined the Kigali Institute of Education (University of Rwanda-College of Education) as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Geography. In 2004, He enrolled to the Parisian Master’s Program of “Geomorphology : Relief, Surface Dynamic and Natural Hazards” for the ‘Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies’ (DEA) at Université Paris XII Val-De-Marne, France, earned in 2005. In 2012 a fellowship was granted to him to pursue Doctoral Studies (PhD). In 2016, He graduated Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU-CS), Germany.
Since 2020, Dr. Byizigiro is member of the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) and President of thenewly co-founded Rwandan Association of Geomorphologists, which is a National Scientific Member (NSM) of IAG.
Dr. Byizigiro has contributed in academia and research development through publications, lectures, modules design and writing, programs review and development for secondary schools, bachelor and Graduate (Masters) Programs at the University of Rwanda – College of Education. He also co-published scientific research papers in Local and International Journals. He is co-supervising Masters’ and is member of the Doctoral Committee at the University of Rwanda – College of Education.
His research interest includes Geomorphology, Natural Hazards, Soil Erosion and conservation, Land Use and Water Management, physical impacts of small-scale mining, land degradation and restauration, and climate change.
