UR-Rukara Campus Football Team played quality games at Huye

In the just concluded Football games that took place at HUYE from Saturday the 27th to Sunday the 28th April 2019, Rukara Campus’ Football team being one of the participating teams emerged the best in Group B and the third in the competitions. The games were organized by the University of Rwanda in the framework of the 2019 Inter-Campus Sports and Culture competitions.

Participating teams were divided into three groups of three teams each. There were Group A  (Gikondo Campus-Remera Campus and Nyarugenge Campus; Group B ( Rwamagana Campus-Rukara Campus-Busogo Campus,  and Group C ( Nyagatare Campus-Huye Campus - Rusizi Campus). Three play grounds, namely; Huye Stadium, Kamena Stadium and Huye Campus Stadium hosted the games simultaneously.

As regards Group B, all the teams met at Huye Campus Stadium on Saturday afternoon following the choice of the ground that was made randomly. Despite high determination of both teams to win, Busogo and Rukara ended in a goal less tie ( 0-0).

On the same day, Rukara played with Rwamagana and the game ended with a high score of 6-0 in favor of Rukara. Rukara  team had then to face Nyarugenge Team that had emerged the best from Group C. The game that ended in favor of the latter (2-1).

On Sunday, Rukara and Remera contested for the third position. Observers rated the game as a keenly contested encounter with a display of quality game that ended 1-1; a situation that led to the penalties gracefully won by Rukara ( 5-4).

Throughout the games,  identified best scorers are  Mwizerwa Elysee ( 3 goals), Nsengiyumva Anaclet (2), Kwizera Jerome (2) and Yambabariye  Theoneste ( 2). 

According to the team’s organizational chart; Central defenders are Hagenimana Valens (No 6) & Kabahuza Jean Pierre ( No 4), Full back : (left) Ayirwanda Jonas (No 14) &( right)  Cyuzuzo Oscar (No2). Midfielders are  Uwumuremyi  Ehudi ( No 8) , Ronald Nyarwaya ( No10) & Alexis Gisubizo ( No  7).
Wingers are ( left ) Yambabariye Theoneste ( No11) & ( right) Mwizerwa Elysee (No15); Stricker  is Nsengiyumva Anaclet (9) and the Goalkeeper is  Benjamin Byamungu (No1). Above all the team are Mr.Sibomana Emmanuel (Coach) and Mr.Bizumuremyi Antoine( Coordinator).

The University of Rwanda’s Inter-Campus Sports and Culture competitions are meant to develop both mental and physical abilities of students and staff as well as fostering social interactions and unity.
