University of Rwanda-College of Education Fosters a Supportive and Inclusive Academic Culture for Postgraduate Students

The University of Rwanda-College of Education (UR-CE) recently held a welcome event for 275 newly admitted postgraduate students at the UR-Remera Campus on November 9, 2024, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a supportive academic environment. This tradition, an annual highlight at UR, aims to integrate new students into the academic community, introducing them to vital resources, policies, and support systems.

The event was officiated by Prof. Florien Nsanganwimana, Acting Principal of UR-CE, alongside senior college officials and academic leaders. In his opening remarks, Prof. Nsanganwimana underscored the college’s dedication to supporting the postgraduate experience. “This induction signifies our commitment to integrating postgraduate students into the UR-CE community and supporting their success from day one,” he stated, emphasizing the college’s efforts to create an inclusive and resource-rich environment that nurtures academic and professional growth.

The day began with registration and an introduction by the Director of Teaching and Learning Enhancement (DTLE), who presented faculty and administrative leaders to the students. Students received comprehensive overviews of the academic programs offered by the School of Education and the School of Inclusive and Special Needs Education. Notably, the African Center of Excellence for Innovative Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science (ACEITLMS) introduced its advanced programs, establishing itself as a central hub of innovation and research in Rwanda’s education landscape.

The event provided new students with essential academic guidance. The DTLE highlighted key regulations and quality assurance standards, while the College Registrar briefed students on the academic calendar, timetables, and campus facilities. Additionally, the Director of Library Services oriented students on available library services and digital resources, empowering them to maximize their access to the university’s expansive academic materials. A Q&A session allowed students to seek clarification on academic procedures, followed by a dedicated segment addressing any registration concerns.

This well-received induction reflects UR-CE’s dedication to building a cohesive academic culture and enhancing the postgraduate journey. By prioritizing engagement and resource access, UR-CE aligns itself with the university’s broader vision of academic excellence and inclusivity. Going forward, the college plans to make this induction an annual tradition, reinforcing a sense of community and support that will accompany students throughout their postgraduate studies.
