UR-CE students worked together to make bricks that will be used to build a house for the elderly man.
During the Monthly Community Works (Umuganda) for November 2025, student clubs from the University of Rwanda – College of Education (UR-CE), based at Rukara Campus, came together in a remarkable show of solidarity and service. Youth Volunteers, Red Cross members, the Unity and Resilience Club, and Young Life joined efforts to support an elderly man living in vulnerable conditions in Akabahizi Village, Urugarama Cell, Gahini Sector.
The students devoted their time and energy to making bricks that will be used to build a decent house for the beneficiary. Their main activity was making bricks to support the elderly beneficiary with a new home. The activity offered practical support while reinforcing the values of compassion and community service that guide student initiatives at UR-CE.
For many participants, this Umuganda was more than a routine activity. It was an opportunity to learn from one another, strengthen friendships, and live out the values of unity, resilience, and social responsibility. Bringing together different student clubs in one cause highlighted the impact that collective action can create within the community.
UR-CE Rukara Campus students regularly work hand in hand with the surrounding community.
By taking part in such activities, UR-CE students continue to build a culture of responsibility, empathy, and civic engagement. Their involvement aligns with the university’s mission of shaping graduates who actively contribute to Rwanda’s development while upholding national values.
At UR-CE Rukara Campus, this spirit of service has become a consistent practice. Student clubs regularly engage in a range of community-focused activities—supporting vulnerable households, participating in environmental conservation, promoting health awareness, and contributing to social wellbeing. These ongoing efforts clearly demonstrate their strong commitment to enhancing the welfare of the communities surrounding the campus and strengthening the bond between the university and local residents.
