Honorable Minister of Education,
Distinguished Government Officials,
Esteemed Development Partners, Scholars, Academics, and Education Practitioners,
Colleagues from the University of Rwanda and the International Academic Community,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is with profound gratitude and a deep sense of pride that I welcome you to the 3rd International Conference on “Reshaping Education for Sustainable Development.” On behalf of the University of Rwanda, I extend our heartfelt appreciation for your presence and your unwavering commitment to advancing education as a pillar of national and global development.
This annual gathering has grown into one of our flagship academic forums, bringing together visionary minds to engage in dialogue, debate, and discovery. It is a powerful reminder that education is not only a fundamental human right ; it is the bedrock of sustainable development, peace, and shared prosperity.
As Rwanda’s leading public institution of higher learning, the University of Rwanda remains firmly committed to its mission : to produce highly skilled, innovative, and ethical graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national transformation and global progress. Through quality teaching, cutting-edge research, and community engagement, we aim to shape citizens who are not only job seekers but solution providers. Indeed, the University of Rwanda is much sensitive on its core mandate not only to generate knowledge but to apply that knowledge in solving real-world problems, informing public policy, and driving innovation that benefits society at large.
In effect, it is through honoring this core mandate that according to the Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings, the University of Rwanda now ranks among the top 40 universities in the region. This milestone is also a reflection of the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, and strategic partners. This achievement indeed motivates us to continuously raise the bar in academic quality, research excellence, and international collaboration.
To all our partners, local and international, your continued support and collaboration are vital. Let this conference serve not only as a platform for knowledge exchange but also as a springboard for new partnerships and enduring networks that advance shared educational goals. As you engage in the sessions ahead, I encourage you to reflect boldly, contribute generously, and collaborate meaningfully. Let us use this moment to inspire one another and re-imagine education for a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future.
Before I wind up my remark, I feel I must take this opportunity to commend the College of Education for its consistency and leadership in organizing this conference over the past three years. You have set a commendable standard for academic engagement across our colleges, and we are committed to institutionalizing and sustaining this noble tradition.
Together, let us turn knowledge into action, partnerships into progress, and dialogue into lasting impact. Thank you once again for your presence, your insights, and your commitment.
Thank you.
