Opening Remarks of the 3rd International Conference on Re-shaping Education for Sustainable Development by Prof Florien Nsanganwimana, UR-CE Acting Principal

14 May 2025

Honourable Minister of Education,
Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda,
Government Officials,
Esteemed Development Partners,
Scholars, Academics, and Education Practitioners,
Colleagues and Members of the University of Rwanda Community,
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is both a profound privilege and a heartfelt honor to welcome you to the 3rd International Conference on Reshaping Education for Sustainable Development, proudly hosted by the University of Rwanda – College of Education, in collaboration with MasterCard Foundation through Leaders in Teaching (LIT) Project.

At the heart of this gathering lies a shared belief ; that education is not merely a sectoral priority, but a powerful catalyst for societal transformation. Today’s global challenges demand that education systems become more agile, inclusive, and forward-looking. The University of Rwanda – College of Education embraces this global imperative with renewed resolve. We view our role not simply as trainers of teachers, but as enablers of sustainable change. We aspire to cultivate a generation of educators and leaders who are not only technically competent but ethically grounded, socially responsive, and globally aware. It is within this spirit that we have committed to hosting this annual international conference ; not as an isolated academic event, but as part of a broader mission to connect, collaborate, and catalyze innovation across borders.
In the words of Nelson Mandela : “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” At the College of Education, we hold this truth as our guiding compass. We believe that knowledge multiplies when shared. That research matters most when applied. And that partnerships thrive when they are rooted in mutual respect and a common purpose.

Through platforms such as this conference, we seek to build a scholarly ecosystem that nourishes both reflection and action ; one where ideas spark impact, and where diverse voices contribute to a common agenda of resilience, equity, and excellence in education.
As we look ahead, we reaffirm our commitment to this mandate and extend a standing invitation to all of you to walk this journey with us ; as partners, co-creators, and fellow champions of education for sustainable development.

To our returning participants, we are grateful for your enduring support. To our first-time attendees, we warmly welcome you into the University of Rwanda academic community. May this be the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership.

The College of Education acknowledges the tireless efforts of all those who made this conference possible. My sincere appreciation goes to the organizing committee, reviewers, technical teams, coordinators, and every individual who has worked diligently behind the scenes.
Welcome once again and may this be not just a conference, but the beginning of something greater.

Thank you.
