Academic Background :
Jean Uwamahoro (PhD) obtained a BSc degree in Physics and Chemistry with Education in 2004 from the former Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), now the University of Rwanda, College of Education (UR-CE). He earned a BSc Honors degree in Astrophysics and Space Science from the University of Cape Town in 2006, followed by an MSc (2009) and PhD (2012) in Space Physics from Rhodes University, South Africa.
Professional Background :
Prof. Uwamahoro has been an academic staff member and researcher at the University of Rwanda since 2005 and is currently a Full Professor of Physics and Science Education. He also holds the administrative position of Deputy Director of the African Centre of Excellence for Innovative Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science (ACEITLMS), hosted at UR-CE.
Academic Duties :
Teaching undergraduate and Master’s-level physics courses.
Supervising postgraduate students at both Master’s and PhD levels.
Leading and managing various funded research projects as a Principal Investigator.
Participating in UR and international committees for organizing conferences and training workshops.
Research and Contributions :
Prof. Uwamahoro has led initiatives to establish research collaborations and networks under signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the University of Rwanda and local, regional, and international institutions.
His research focuses on :
Space Physics, specifically modeling and predicting Solar-Terrestrial Interaction phenomena (Space Weather).
STEM Education Research.
Prof. Uwamahoro has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed research papers in Space Weather and STEM education. His research outputs can be found on ResearchGate.

National Representative of the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP).
Member and Country Coordinator of the International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI).
